Alianora is one of my best milkers. Alianora can be a handful, but she always manages to be forgiven as she is the comic relief here on the farm. If she isn't tossing her food around while she eats, she is wearing a bucket on her head, or "doing her nails" on the milk stand. I go from furious because she just dragged me to the Bucks when she was supposed to be getting on the milk stand, to doubled over laughing in an instant when she does airs above ground on her way back to where she belongs. She is three quarters LaMancha and one quarter Sannen so she is registered as experimental. She is wonderfully tall with a lovely solid build and she is a fabulous mother who takes caring for three babies all in stride. She has even helped out taking care of other kids and abandoned kids! She is non-agressive with the other does but doesn't stand for being picked on either. It is almost as if she has stepped aside and refuses to partake in the whole "pecking order" business.

Gracie Allen
Being retired this year.
Will be milked until she dries up.

Gracie Allen is the matriarch of my goat band. She is the most unusual Nubian. She is quiet, polite, gentle, cooperative, well behaved on the milk stand, and basically unlike any other Nubian I've ever had or met! Her disposition is so lovely that it is hard not to fall in love with her. Gracie came from another farm where the babies are raised by hand and to this day she refuses to take care of all of her babies, so we get to hand raise at least two kids each year. She is being retired this year after two years of difficult births and quadruplets. She will remian on the milk line until she is no longer able to make milk and we will find out just how long her lactation will go.

India is a doe purchased from Virgina. When we bought her it was a two fold adventure. Not only were we looking to have a bit of genetic diverisy amoungst our does, but we were hoping that she would have a buckling nice enough to keep as a junior herd sire. The gamble paid off! Not only is she a wonderful milker, she gave us a fabulous buckling, Cormac.

Susan is a very speical girl. She and I have a special bond after I nearly lost her to bottle jaw in 2007. I learned a hard lesson that year, and I aim never to revisit that school again. Three times the doc told me not to bet the farm on her (a kind way of telling me she was going to die). I didn't bet the farm on her, but I refused to give up on her for as long as she was fighting and I'm sure glad I didn't. She is a real gem.

Unbelievable!! This little girl has the most perfect udder I have ever seen and she is giving one gallon of milk every day! How is that for a first time freshening yearling? It seems that the $40 gamble, purchasing a bred doeling out of the kill pens at the sale barn, has paid off. She was aptly named. Serendipity.

Erlain is my favorite doeling from the 2007 kid crop. Her mother, Alianora, is one of my favorite does. She has just the right amount of spice in her personality to keep me on my toes and a promising milk heritage. She will be a first time freshening 2 year old in 2009 and join the other does on the milk line.

I have a weakness for Alianora's daughters. Mwamba is one of my favorite kids from the crop this year. She has her mother's personality so she will be a lot of fun. Her sire's dam is proving to be a very good milker with a stellar milking personality.

Ariella is the best milker! I can not believe that I sold her! Thanks to Deb and her family for giving Ariella a good, loving home. What made her the "best" milker? A quiet, gentle doe, who stands patiently on the milk stand without screaming, kicking, or dancing, is very easy to milk, and is willing to let total strangers milk her, is worth her weight in gold. She will be missed, but her prodigy is already spoken for. She will be bred to Stormy this year and I've already spoken for the buckling if she has one. Stormy is getting on in age and his replacement must be the "cream of the crop". Every time he and Ariella have come together it has only been good.
