Alianora is one of my best milkers. Alianora can be a handful, but she always manages to be forgiven as she is the comic relief here on the farm. If she isn't tossing her food around while she eats, she is wearing a bucket on her head, or "doing her nails" on the milk stand. I go from furious because she just dragged me to the Bucks when she was supposed to be getting on the milk stand, to doubled over laughing in an instant when she does airs above ground on her way back to where she belongs. She is three quarters LaMancha and one quarter Sannen so she is registered as experimental. She is wonderfully tall with a lovely solid build and she is a fabulous mother who takes caring for three babies all in stride. She has even helped out taking care of other kids and abandoned kids! She is non-agressive with the other does but doesn't stand for being picked on either. It is almost as if she has stepped aside and refuses to partake in the whole "pecking order" business. She was milked for 2 years and was giving me 6-7 lbs a day until January 1st when I stopped milking her.

India is a doe purchased from Virgina. She is not quite as heavy a milker as Alianora, but she stayed in milk and proved her worth as a doe that can be used for long lactations. India is a super easy milker that anyone can milk with a fabulous dairy temperament. She freshened last in March of 2008 and was giving 4 lbs a day when we stopped milking her. She will freshen this year and again be milked for 2 years.

Susan is a very speical girl. She and I have a special bond after I nearly lost her to bottle jaw in 2007. I learned a hard lesson that year, and I aim never to revisit that school again. Three times the doc told me not to bet the farm on her (a kind way of telling me that she was going to die). I didn't bet the farm on her, but I refused to give up on her for as long as she was fighting and I'm sure glad I didn't. She is a real gem. Susan is bred each year and milked until her babies are weaned then turned out to pasture.

Serendipity continues to live up to her name. She has simply got the nicest udder I've seen with well placed, nicely sized teats and she is a dream to milk. She is being kept on the milk line over the winter and will be milked through her second year this year. It is a bit early to tell, but for now she seems to be another doe that can hold her own in a long lactation. She is presently making 3-4 lbs a day.

This young lady was so eager to be bred when she came into estrus that she found a way into the buck's pen, exactly where I found her when I went outside to chore. I realize that it is standard practice to breed does once they reach 80 pounds, but I don't usually breed them until they are yearlings. I guess Farilyn had different ideas.
