Alianora can be a handful, but she always manages to be forgiven as she is the comic relief here on the farm. If she isn't tossing her food around while she eats, she is wearing a bucket on her head, or "doing her nails" on the milk stand. I go from furious because she just dragged me to the Bucks when she was supposed to be getting on the milk stand, to doubled over laughing in an instant when she does airs above ground on her way back to where she belongs. She is three quarters LaMancha and one quarter Sannen so she is registered as experimental. She is wonderfully tall with a lovely solid build and she is a fabulous mother who takes caring for three babies all in stride. She has even helped out taking care of other kids and abandoned kids! She is non-agressive with the other does but doesn't stand for being picked on either. It is almost as if she has stepped aside and refuses to partake in the whole "pecking order" business. She was milked for 2 years and was giving me 6-7 lbs a day until January 1st when I stopped milking her. Alianora was one of my best milkers-she is now retired.

Ariella has come home! The first year I had milking does, I started out buying one milking doe (a Nubian named Pocahontas), two kid doelings (Morwen & Cimmorene-both Nubians), and a yearling doe (Ariella-a LaMancha). I had not intended to buy the yearling, but she followed me around when I was there to see the other goats, making eyes at me the entire time. After deciding on the kids we were going to buy I said "Oh very well, I'll take her too!" I am so glad that I did!!! She was my first LaMancha doe. A couple of months later, I bought Gracie Allen (Nubian) and Alianora (LaMancha). Thus I had 4 milking does my first year. Pocahontas and Gracie have passed on, but Alianora is still with me and now Ariella too. Three years ago I sold Ariella and I never recovered from doing so. Had we not been in dire need of funding to fix our septic system, I would not have sold her. But I did, and when Deb told me she was selling her goats and no longer going to have dairy animals my first question was "Do you still have Ariella?" She has come home to a well earned retirement-I am so glad that she gets to spend her final years with me.

India is a doe purchased from Virgina. She is not quite as heavy a milker as Alianora, but she stayed in milk and proved her worth as a doe that can be used for long lactations. India is a super easy milker that anyone can milk with a fabulous dairy temperament. India is my daughter's first milking doe and her nick name is "pushy pig".

Susan and I have a special bond. She had bottle jaw when she was young and though the vet told me 3 times not to bet the farm on her, she pulled through. She has not been a heavy milker post illness, but she always give us 2 nice big bucklings and has earned her keep by providing food for the table in a different venue-and she gives us a little milk too.

Serendipity continues to live up to her name. She has the best dairy temperament and a wonderfully long lactation. We had a rough go of it this year, and if it were not for Serendipity, we would have had no milk. She is still giving almost a gallon a day as I am writing this (in August after a wicked hot summer), and will be given a well earned break over the winter.

Willow is one very flashy girl. The first time we met Willow, she was a yearling doe that my friend Deb had brought over to be bred, and my daughter fell in love. When Deb decided she was going to sell her, we brought her home to stay. That gives my daughter 3 goats to call her own. Willow seems to relish giving me daily reminders of why I chose to keep Lamanchas when I was focused on just one breed! *sigh* If she is as easy to milk, and makes as much as we have been promised, it will be worth it.

Kallista is such a sweet girl! She is the great grand-daughter of Gracie Allen, who was one of my original 4 milking does from the first year I started milking. She was bred by my friend Deb after she bought Holly from me, and is Holly's last daughter. I am quite attached to this young lady and she will be a frist time freshener for 2012.

Dina is my daughter's goat. She is the last daughter of Verena, a goat that came from my friend Dawn's band. Dina is a very active and into everything girl. Her personality has earned her the adoration of my husband who now proclaims her his favorite goat on the farm. Being half Sannen, I expect she will be one of the heaviest milkers we have ever had. She will be bred for a first time freshening in spring of 2013.
